Al began performing professionally in 1978 with a local vocal group by the name of  “The Mystics”. They performed in various nightclubs in New Orleans and surrounding cities in Louisiana.  In 1984, “The Mystics” was the regional winner of the 1984 Budweiser Original Song Showdown competition sponsored by local radio station WYLD. The winning song was entitled “I’m Alone Now”.

After returning to the U.S. with “Premiere”, the group began having personal problems. Due to this unfortunate situation, Al decided to perform as a solo artist. He returned to Japan in September 2000 through December 2000 and toured the cities of Fukuoka and Nagasaki.

In March of 2001 through July 2001, he toured Yokahama and Tokyo. Then in July 2002, he recorded a demo single entitled “I Thank My Lucky Stars”.  After completing this project, he organized a band which he called  “Al Ancar and Kush”, and began performing in the “French Quarters”.

In November 2002, Al was asked to join the vocal group “Sa’Vey”. He agreed and the group began performing at the Treasure Chest Casino in Kenner, LA and Bally’s Casino in New Orleans. Between gigs he would travel to Houston and Dallas, Texas to fill in for other singers with a friend’s band. They performed at five star hotels and country clubs on the corporate circuit.

One member’s health began to decline, leaving “Sa’Vey” with only two members. Due to this lengthy and frustrating process of finding a new singer, Al organized a Rhythm Section of his own and is now performing solo in and around the City of New Orleans.
